Hello Kindergarten Families!
It's been another super busy week here in the Kindergarten room! Thank you to all of the families that made it out to watch our drumming celebrations, and an extra thank you to those from the AM class who came back out again to participate!
This week in Kindergarten we have continued to work on counting and associating the numerals 1-10 with quantities. Today the PM class worked on an activity to concretely represent the numbers to 10 by using beans and pasta.
This week we also worked on the letter D, as well as reviewed the first letters in our name, and practiced writing them too. The first half hour of every day we worked on "literacy centers" and focused on letter matching, stamping the letters in our names, alphabet based puzzles and digging in our letter sensory bin. AM Kindergarten also had a visit this week from our School Nurse about handwashing! PM Kindergarten will receive the same presentation on Thursday next week. Today we also had a visit from our OTs (Occupational Therapist) who gave us a presentation about which order winter clothes go in. AM Kindergarten will receive this presentation next week on Thursday.
Next Week
In the week ahead, we will continue to work on counting to 10, and recognizing the numerals to 10 and associating them with a quantity. We will also continue to investigate our topic "Who am I?" by continuing to work on our "All About Me" books. The first little part of each day will continue to be focused on "table work" so that students are able to engage in a meaningful task as soon as they arrive at school.
Practice at Home
Yesterday a letter D sheet was sent home. If you are interested, you can have your child practice writing the letter D, try and follow the instructions on the sheet! We also watched the letter D song, which is a great tool to help remember these steps to write, as well as to remember the sound of D. Here is the video:
Questions to Ask
Ask your Kindergarten student, what does the letter D say?
Ask your PM Kindergarten student, what winter clothing item goes on last?
Reminders
1.) Please note that AM and PM Kindergarten continues to alternate Fridays. Next Friday, October 19th is AM Kindergarten. If you are not sure about which days are AM/PM, we have a handy calendar that colour codes the days! Please let us know if you need a copy!
2.) The letter pamphlets that come home are yours to keep! They are not mandatory homework, just a small example of what we are working on at school so you can see some of your child's work :)
3.) Please continue to send home folders back to school every day!
4.) AM Kindergarten has their second session of CAD next Friday, October 19th
Have a great weekend!
