Friday Forecast

Hello Kindergarten families!

Thank you to everyone who made it out to parent teacher conferences! If you were unable to make it today or yesterday, feel free to contact me to schedule another time to meet!

Yesterday in Kindergarten we had a fun day creating mitten art with pastels. As we have been looking at the book "The Mitten" to help us learn the "I see, I think, I wonder" reading strategy, we let it inspire us to create our own mitten. We used our understanding of patterns as well to guide our artwork with the pastels.

Next week we will cut out our mittens and put them on snowy backgrounds.

Week Ahead

Next week we will be looking at winter. We will start to talk about some of the changes in nature we have been experiencing with the cold weather. We will continue to look at patterns in Math, and discuss how to create and extend patterns using materials in the classroom. We will also continue to read stories daily, and we will work on using the third step "I wonder" in "I see, I think, I wonder." Using this strategy when looking at the front cover of a book helps us to access our prior knowledge and make connections while reading. In gym we will continue working on basketball, and will start trying to shoot baskets. And of course we will be continuing to get ready for our play, "Press Start!"

Reminders

1.) Friday December 14th is PM Kindergarten

2.) Since the book fair was in the library this week, we did not exchange library books! Some students returned their books, but unfortunately we could not get new ones. We will exchange books next week! (AM Thursday, PM Friday.)

3.) Please send in your child's costume (with their name on it) ASAP if you are planning on attending the evening or afternoon performance of Press Start! See the email or previous blog post for information on costumes.

4.) December 14th will be PM Kindergarten's first round of CAD "Community Activity Day." During CAD, students get to participate in an activity taught by another teacher. The activities range from cooking, gym games, art, reading to building and STEAM challenges. Each student will receive a Cambrian Heights t-shirt (kept at school) to wear during CAD for school spirit!

5.) December 17th - 21st is Holiday Theme Spirit days! A heads up that if you would like to participate, each day is a different dress up day:

Wednesday December 19th - Crazy Holiday Hat Day

Thursday December 20th - Winter Clothes Day (wear anything with a snowflake, snowman etc.)
