March 19th
Hello Kindergarten Families!
I'm so sorry for the lack of blog updates over the past few days - I have been sick and away at some training but I'm back today!
First important thing to note is that tomorrow (Wednesday March 20th) is "dress like a character" day. Please see this note:

Something special and magical will happen at Cambrian Heights School on Wednesday March 20th. Characters of all types (movies, books, video games, etc.) will unite, as students transform into their favourite character for the day. We are excited to meet performers, adventurists, wizards, humanitarians, animals, investigators, scientists, savers of the world, and more! Students have a choice to dress in full costume or bring a prop. Please ensure your child does not bring weapon accessories, and that their costume is comfortable for learning. We are all looking forward to this fantastical day!
What: Be Your Favourite Character Day
When: Wednesday March 20th 2019
Where: Cambrian Heights School
Today we reviewed the letters we have been working on so far in Kindergarten, and also learned the letter W.
We also have been practicing singing the song "You've Got a Friend in Me" which we will be performing at our Spring Concert in April. Feel free to practice at home!
Practice At Home
Today students are coming home with sheets in their home folders that show all of the capital letters they can do! Please take a look at the sheet to see how your child's writing is coming along. Please note, we have not covered any capital letters that start in the middle or have a curve. So if the letters aren't there yet, don't worry! We are still working on it. We have also worked on the corresponding lowercase letters, so students should be able to identify and write the matching lowercase letters as well.
If you like, feel free to practice writing and identifying letters at home. Writing can be done with a pencil, or with less traditional ways like in sand or with a paintbrush and water. Another great thing to practice at home is name writing! Some tips for writing names/letters:
- Always start letters at the top!
- Encourage your child to write their name with one capital letter and the rest lowercase (not in all capitals)
- Encourage your child to hold their pencil/writing tool "like a pinch" for the best fine motor control
Reminders
1.) Tomorrow we will go outside to investigate the trees in the naturalization area. Please send your student prepared for the weather. It should be a nice day, but if your child has rubber boots it would be a good idea to wear them to stay dry in the melting snow!
2.) Thursday March 21st and Friday March 22nd are parent conferences. Please sign up for a conference on powerschool. Let me know if you are having any trouble signing up!
3.) Friday March 22nd there is no school (parent conferences)
4.) Please send all library books back to school by Thursday March 21st! We will visit the library again after Spring Break
5.) Spring Break is March 25th - 31st. School will resume on April 1st!
Have a great evening! Hope every one can enjoy some sun :)
