Hello all!
We had a great week in Kindergarten working on the letter O, investigating
"animal homes" and discussing mindfulness. And of course, today was our super fun AM trip to Butterfield Acres!
On Wednesday in honour of "Hats on for Mental Health" we read the book "My Magic Breath." We discussed how taking deep breaths can help you feel calm if you are ever upset or stressed out! We also worked on creating some mandala art. We talked about how they start at the center, and help you to relax your mind as you doodle away. We used sharpies and water colour pencils to create these masterpieces!
Yesterday we worked on some journalling about our latest topic of investigation, animal homes. We talked about the different kinds of animal homes we have looked at already (beaver dams, nests and spider webs) and learned about the word "habitat." Students drew pictures in their writing journals to show the animal homes they knew about, and we also started to try out some writing! Students are now being challenged to use their understanding of letter sounds to try sounding out unfamiliar words. They did a great job on their first attempt at using this important strategy!
Today we had a TON of fun at Butterfield Acres. Thank you SO MUCH to all of the parent volunteers who joined us! Every one had a fantastic time!
Week Ahead
Next week we will continue to investigate animal homes. We will be incorporating our trip/upcoming trip to Butterfield Acres in our writing, and add some vocabulary words from the farm to our word wall. We will also work on the letters Q and G (the last of the "curve" letters!) In Math we will start to connect our next topic of measurement to our investigation of animal homes as well. We will think about comparing our heights and sizes to some of the animals we saw, as well as to each other. In the gym, we will continue to work on soccer skills, and hopefully venture outside for some soccer on the field as well! And of course, our PM field trip to Butterfield Acres will be on Friday May 10th!
Reminders
1.) Friday May 10th is PM Kindergarten (trip to Butterfield!!) Please have field trip forms returned by Monday May 6th.
2.) Home reading will come home Monday (if you haven't sent it back yet, please do so on Monday!)
3.) The re-scheduled Parent Council Meeting will be on Wednesday May 8th
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
