Friday October 11th
Hello Kindergarten families!
It's been another awesome week in Kindergarten! Throughout the week we focused on discussing "The Zones of Regulation." We read lots of stories to help us understand the different zones, and learned about some strategies we can use to stay in the green zone.
We read "Pout Pout Fish" to help us think about the blue zone, as well as "Llama Llama Mad at Mama" for a look at the red zone.

We read "Pout Pout Fish" to help us think about the blue zone, as well as "Llama Llama Mad at Mama" for a look at the red zone.
We also discussed how we can use different strategies for staying in the green zone. We practiced "belly breathing" and taking a "shake break" as strategies for helping us calm down and get energized.
On Monday, we worked on practicing the letter E. We added a letter E practice center to our morning literacy centers, as well as some playdo practice for the alphabet and more name writing practice!
This week we also started to create an "all about me" book. We started by creating the covers of our books, which are actually mini versions of ourselves!
Yesterday, we also had a special visitor in our PM class. Our school nurse Mrs.Olsen came to visit us to teach us about hand washing. We practiced washing our hands and tested our skills by using some fake powdered "germs," and looking at our results under a black light. Our key takeaway was to make sure to use lots of soap!
Week Ahead
Next week we will continue to work on our "All About Me" books, by adding some pages inside that will describe information about our likes and dislikes. We will tie this in with our ongoing discussion of the "zones of regulation," and we will be creating a classroom bulletin board that documents the different zones and includes pictures for the strategies available to us to help us stay in the green zone. In Math we will continue exploring patterns - and we will start experimenting with some more open ended problems that prompt us to apply our understanding of what we have already learned about patterns! Next week the AM class will also receive a visit from our lovely school nurse to learn about proper hand washing techniques.
Reminders
1.) No school Monday October 14th (Thanksgiving)
2.) Wednesday October 16th is "Retro Day." If you are interested in participating, please come to school dressed in a "retro" outfit!
3.) The PM class was unfortunately not able to get out new library books yesterday - due to a mix up in scheduling! My apologies about that - we will make sure to go next week :)
4.) A reminder to please send your student to school in appropriate attire for being outside! We usually go outside once a week (often on Thursdays.) I will usually update the blog to say what day we are going outside - but it's a good idea to have your child come to school with a hat, pair of mittens/gloves, winter coat and boots if it is cold outside, so that they are prepared for outside every day.
5.) Also, on the topic of clothing items, please ensure you write your child's name on as much of their items as possible. This makes it easier to return it to them in case it gets lost!
We have a number of missing items that we are currently on the look out for, so please also check at home to see if your child has mistakenly brought home a clothing item. Sometimes students get mixed up and bring home items that are not theirs!
6.) Friday October 18th is AM Kindergarten
Happy Thanksgiving to all, and have a great weekend!
