Friday November 15th
Hello all!
It has been another busy week in Kindergarten! This week we continued to focus on numbers 1-10, and using 10 frames to show numbers. We practiced writing numbers during literacy centers, and using 10 frames to count objects.

Why use 10 frames you ask? Because they help us subitize! Subitizing is being able to recognize how many of something there is without counting each item individually. When items are placed into a 10 frame, they are lined up neatly and easier to recognize in terms of quantity. In Kindergarten, students are working on being able to subitize quantities of 1-5.
After practicing using our 10 frames indoors, we went outside on Thursday (AM) and Friday (PM) to use our 10 frames to count some nature items. We had lots of fun gathering items and counting them in our 10 frames!

On Wednesday and Thursday, we had another visit from our OT specialist to work on our pencil grasps. We coloured in gumball machines to practice going around and around in clockwise circles.
Also, on Friday we introduced a new center. We added a building/drawing center as part of our tower investigation that we will continue to work on next week.
Week Ahead
Next week we will continue using 10 frames to practice numbers 1-10, we will look specifically at the numbers 9 & 10! On Monday we will introduce the letter N as our next "frog jump" capital. Throughout the week, we will be focusing on "bucket filling" and we will be discussing our virtue of the month, which is honor. On Thursday we will be working on another STEAM activity that is more art based, and builds on our understanding of towers and structures. Please note, our tennis residency starts on Monday for both classes! It will take place during normal school hours for both Kindergarten classes. The residency will run daily for two weeks starting Monday!
