December 18th

Hello all!

Can you believe there is only one more school day this week??? Time is flying by!!! We have been busy as usual in the Kindergarten room, yesterday we re-visted our "part-part whole" strategy and worked on making the number 9 in different ways in our visual journals.

We have been using the cube blocks to create models of part part whole, by asking students to create a number using two different colours of blocks. Their first step is to select two colours, and then build the correct "whole" (in this case, the whole is 9.) They then count the two different colours to see how many are in each part. The last step is to record their work using pictures and colours!

If you haven't already, please check your child's home folder for a work sample that shows their understanding of part-part whole.

The part-part whole model helps students to see that numbers are made up of smaller numbers. We will be using it throughout the year!

We have also continued to use the 10 frames to practice representing numbers. And recently we have also started experimenting with a number line that has been added to our carpet!

Reminders

1.) Please sign the Math work sample in your child's home folder and return it tomorrow if you haven't done so already!

2.) Tomorrow is pajama day! There will also be caroling in the afternoon, at 12:30. Parents and family members are welcome to join!

3.) Please return all library books! We will not be visiting the library until after the break, so that our librarian has time to re-shelve all of the books :)

4.) No school Friday December 20th (PD day)

Have a great evening!
