December 2nd & Work Samples Coming Home!
Hello all!
Today we read the book "The Hat" and used our prediction skills from reading "The Mitten" to guess what the "The Hat" might be about. Using cover clues is an important reading strategy that helps us get reading for reading. We found out that "The Hat" is actually about a stocking that some farm animals use like a hat - which is kind of similar to "The Mitten." Ask your student if they can remember the story!

Also, please note that writing samples are coming home today! Please check your child's home folder or backpack for a writing sample of "frog jump" capitals that looks like this:
These are the letters we have worked on so far. As we have been working on each frog jump capital - we have also practiced the corresponding lowercase letters. However, these letters are harder to write and many students are still working on perfecting those. The above image is an exemplar and not all students are there yet, and that's ok! We will keep practicing on these letters and writing throughout the year.
The writing sample also has your child's name on the top so you can see how they are progressing working on that. Some students are using their "name stick" (a popsicle stick that has their picture and name written on it) to refer to while writing their name. Some students are able to write their names independently, and are working on writing their name with one capital and the rest lowercase.
All students have some comments on their samples that indicate what they are working on. Each student is working on something different and that is ok! If you have questions about your child's writing - feel free to contact me, or we can discuss at our upcoming parent conferences!
