Friday Forecast

Hello Kindergarten Families,

It's been a great week back to school! On Monday we took some time to review some of the letters we have discussed, and how to write them.

We also started to look more deeply at our next Math topic this week, Shape and Space. We started to discuss 2D shapes, and some of their properties. On Tuesday, we worked on starting a "shape booklet." We read the book "Circle" and worked on a page all about circles that will go in our booklets.

On Wednesday we also tried some shape art. We experimented with compasses, protractors, rulers and triangles to draw as many different kinds of shapes as we could.

Throughout the week we also embedded shapes in to our literacy center and big center time. We are building and making them, and practicing recognizing them in our daily activities.

Week Ahead

Next week we will continue expanding our understanding of shapes - we will look more deeply at squares and rhombuses, and add a page into our shape booklet. During our literacy time, we will also look at the letter L, our next corner capital. We are also going to start to take a look at our drawings and pictures in our visual journals. In Kindergarten, we generally use pictures and images to explain our thinking. We will be starting to take a look at how to add detail to these drawings, and maybe text, so that we can communicate our thoughts more clearly. In gym, we will also be working on badminton skills.

Reminders

1.) Wednesday January 15th is our next Spirit Day, "Backwards Day." If you are interested in participating, feel free to have your student dress up with clothing/hats that is on backwards!

2.)  Friday January 17th there is no school - PD Day

3.) Both classes of students are coming home with new library books - please check home folders! If your student does not have a new book - this means they still have a library book at home. Please check and let us know if you aren't sure what book to look for.

Have a wonderful weekend!
