January 30th - Math Samples Coming Home!
Hello all,
This is just a quick update to let you know that there is a Math sample coming home today in home folders! As you know, each month we are sending home a Literacy and Math sample. On Monday you hopefully received the literacy sample "continuum," which is paired with the Iris update.
Today, your child will be bringing home a math problem so you can see an update on how they are doing with Math. Recently, we have been working on the properties of 2D shapes. The sample shows a problem which asks students to solve the problem: I have two shapes in basket that add up to eight sides. Which shapes could they be?"
Here is what an exemplar for what a solution to this activity could look like:
You can see that the student has successfully traced more than one combination of two shapes that add up to eight sides, recorded their work and written the numeral to show the total of eight.
Please note, all students are performing at different levels and that's ok! Some students weren't able to find a solution to solve the problem, and some were able to solve it with support from an adult. Please check your child's work to see what they were able to do, some samples have notes written on them that detail how they solved it.
