Friday Forecast

Hello all,

This week in Kindergarten we started to focus on adding some writing to go with our pictures. We started Monday off by writing and drawing about what we did on the long weekend.

This task is coming home in home folders as this month's literacy sample! Please check this blog post for further explanation.

In Math, we are starting to transition to focusing more on numbers again, but we are still technically working on shapes! The students worked on a math problem with triangles on Wednesday. They were given a triangle template, and asked, how many shapes can fit inside of a triangle? The afternoon class worked on the same task, but they were also given a chart to record how many of each shape they could fit. We have also added an area at our light table to continue to explore this activity.

Today the PM class also worked on a similar activity with hexagons!

Week Ahead

Next week we have some exciting visitors coming to talk to us in Kindergarten! We have invited Mr. Whitton and Mr. Eakins to come and speak to our classes, so that we can get more information about what principals do. This is to help us with our "School Center," which students have been playing at for the past few weeks. In Math, we will be starting to go back to numbers from 1-10, and start to look at number lines as another form of showing numbers. Next week we also have Pink Shirt day on Wednesday 26th. We will be reading and sharing stories about respect and relationship building throughout the week.

Reminders

1.) Tuesday February 25th is "Dress like your Favourite Book Character Day." Feel free to come to school dressed as a book character!

2.) Wednesday February 26th is "Pink Shirt Day." Wear pink to show support for anti-bullying! Here is a link for more information on pink shirt day if you haven't heard the story!

3.) Friday February 28th is AM Kindergarten

4.) Next week we have our puppetry residency visiting again! Wendy from WP puppets will be with us in AM and PM Kindergarten to continue to work on making some puppets with us. This is a great time to volunteer if you are cleared through the office and are available! If you're interested - please email me!

5.) The Kindergarten room is looking for two things:

a) Kleenex/tissue - If some families could send a box with their student that would be awesome as we are currently all out!

b) With our recent interest in writing, we have been going through a lot of cards and envelopes! If possible, donations of any spare cards/stationary/notepads and especially envelopes would be very much appreciated!! Please do not buy anything - but if you have some laying around at home they will be put to good use in Kindergarten!

Thank you for reading and have a great weekend!

~ Ms. Weir
